For a basic version, this still feels pretty sturdy. The reel is smooth enough for regular use and the metal body gives it a more stable feel than I expected.
We appreciate that review, Jake. Even this version was built to feel dependable in the hand, so we are glad the frame stability stood out.
I wanted a reel that could burn lures through the water as fast as possible, and this one absolutely delivers. The high gear ratio makes it super easy to cover water quickly, and the retrieve feels powerful and smooth the whole time.
I have been using it in fast mountain creeks, ripping spinners and small hard baits for trout, and the reel has handled it really well. It feels solid thanks to the full metal construction, the drag is strong and consistent, and the handle gives you plenty of control when a fish loads up in the current.
I originally tried it on a short ultralight rod, and even though the reel is a bit bigger than a typical creek setup, it still performed great. On a 7 ft rod or a slightly heavier setup, the balance would be perfect and this thing would be an absolute rocket for burning lures.
Overall, I am very happy with this reel. It is fast, smooth, and feels built to last. For the price, it is an easy 5-star buy.
Thank you so much for this awesome review and for putting the reel to work in fast water right away. It is great to hear that the high gear ratio is doing exactly what you wanted for burning lures through current, and that the retrieve feels both smooth and powerful in real fishing conditions.
We are also really happy you noticed the solid feel from the full metal construction and the consistent drag performance. This model was designed to handle exactly the kind of hard-running fish you find in moving water.
Your note about pairing it with a slightly longer or heavier rod is spot on, and very helpful for other anglers who might be deciding how to set up their own rigs. On a 7 ft or similar rod, it really does turn into a long-casting, fast-retrieve rocket.
Really impressed with this reel. The ambidextrous power handle feels great in the hand, and the larger knob gives you plenty of grip when you're working bigger fish. Mine arrived well-packed in a nice gift box, which was a pleasant surprise.
Out of the box, the reel feels smooth and solid just slightly on the tighter side, but in a good new gear way. When you spin the handle, it goes about two full turns on its own. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning for anyone who compares reels that free-spin 5+ revolutions. In actual use, the retrieve feels clean, tight, and controlled.
I picked up the 4000 size for targeting larger catfish on a 7 ft setup, and it's exactly what I was hoping for. Great build quality for the price, and it definitely feels like a reel made to work.
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! We're really glad to hear you're enjoying the reel and that the larger ambidextrous handle feels right on your setup.
The slight tightness you mentioned is normal for our reels when new-after a few trips the internal grease settles in and the rotation becomes even smoother. We tune our tolerances snug on purpose to keep the retrieve solid when fighting heavier fish, especially on the 4000 size.
We're happy it paired perfectly with your 7 ft catfish rod, and we appreciate you choosing ReelUp for your next build.
When I first ordered this reel, I honestly thought I would end up sending it back.
But once I unboxed it and put it on my rod, I was completely surprised by the quality.
The full aluminum-magnesium body feels extremely solid, and the machining looks premium.
I bought the 3000 size, and the balance is great , not too heavy but definitely strong enough for bigger fish.
On the water, the reel performs beautifully:
Smooth retrieve even under load
Consistent drag with no hiccups
Tight tolerances, no wobble or cheap play
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
We're thrilled to hear that the full aluminum-magnesium construction and performance exceeded your expectations.
This reel series was designed to deliver a premium feel without the premium price,
strong frame, smooth gearing, and stable drag across all sizes (1000-4000).
Tight lines and great fishing ahead!
I originally picked this reel because I liked the design, but after landing several fish on it, including a 45-inch striped bass. I can confidently say it performs far better than I expected.
The drag is quick to adjust, the reel sits firmly on the rod, and the retrieve is incredibly smooth.
For the price, it honestly feels premium.
Thank you so much for sharing this detailed review!
We're thrilled to hear that your ReelUp reel handled a 45-inch striper with confidence,
this reel series is designed exactly for that balance of strength and smoothness.
A few tips to keep your reel performing at its best:
1 Rinse with fresh water after each trip (especially if used near saltwater).
2 Lightly oil the main shaft and line roller every few outings.
Thanks again for choosing ReelUp, tight lines and great fishing ahead!
