I've been using the GL Series long casting spinning reel for surf fishing, and it's been a solid performer overall. The full metal body feels extremely sturdy, and the drag has plenty of power when dealing with current and heavier sinkers. Once paired with the right rod, it casts a long way and feels very stable under load.
The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the weight . it's definitely heavier than some of my lighter reels, so you feel it after a long session. That said, the extra weight clearly comes from the solid construction, and I'd rather have strength and reliability in the surf. Overall, a very dependable reel for long-distance casting and bigger fish.

I've been using this GL series reel for surf fishing and it has been a strong performer so far. The full metal body feels very solid, the drag has plenty of power, and it casts a long way once you get your rod and weight dialed in. It handles heavier sinkers and steady current without feeling flimsy, which is exactly what I wanted.
The only downside is that it's a bit on the heavier side compared to some of my other reels, so you definitely feel it after a long session. But given the build quality and how stable it feels under load, that's a tradeoff I can live with.
Overall, a very solid long-casting reel for the price -great choice if you need something sturdy for the surf or bigger fish.

The reel feels solid and seems well-built for the price. Casting distance is decent and the retrieve is fairly smooth once you get used to it. I've taken it out a couple of times and it performs fine for general fishing.
That said, it's not perfect. It has a bit more weight than I expected, and the drag takes a moment to dial in exactly where I want it. Nothing major, just small things that stood out. Overall, it's a reasonable reel for the money - not amazing, but not bad either.

I paired the GL2800 with a 7 ft medium Rapala rod and it turned out to be an awesome setup. Smooth casting, strong drag, and the reel handled multiple pike last season without any issues.
