The reel performs surprisingly close to others that cost almost twice as much, so the value is definitely there. However, the one I received arrived with a few small cosmetic blemishes, which made me a bit unsure at first. I've taken it out for two fishing trips so far and it's been working fine, but I'm still keeping an eye on those marks just in case they affect long-term performance.
Overall, decent reel for the price-just wish the quality check before shipping was a little tighter.

Just got back from a fishing trip using this reel, and it was a pleasure to fish with. The action is smooth, and it handled a sly redfish in the Louisiana marsh really well. Great reel for the price, and one I would definitely use again.
Considering the price, this ReelUp reel deserves five stars. It is far better than the Penn Wrath I own. I paired it with an 11foot surf rod, and the balance feels very good. The reel is light, though slightly small for a 5000 size.
It took a dunk in the water once, and when I opened it up afterward, there was no water inside the internal gears only the bail area had some moisture. That truly impressed me. The only drawback is the relatively small spindle. A strong jack crevalle pulled the reel into the water during the fight, and the reel struggled more than I expected from a 5000 size. But again, this is a very affordable reel.
It is extremely smooth when reeling in whiting. Another point worth noting is that the reel is not very easy to disassemble, but that might be the reason the internal gears stayed completely dry. The bail area that got wet was simple to take apart and service. Overall, this is a great reel for kids or casual surf fishing. Looking back, it probably does deserve five stars.

This reel is ideal for freshwater fishing. I spooled it with 8-pound test, and it is perfect for perch, bluegill, and crappie. The reel holds about 200 yards of line, and I paired it with a 7foot rod great combination.
The action is very smooth, and with thinner line I can feel even the smallest bites. Casting distance is excellent as well. Overall, a great reel for light freshwater fishing.
